Most democrats (which is mostly how I voted) tend to follow a "we are responsible for the welfare of society" type belief system, whereas republicans seem to follow a "let's create an enemy, a 'them', and work against 'them' (us vs. them)" kind of system.
I'm more for inclusion than exclusion.
Of course, this is a very vague generalization.
I also (being from Missouri) voted for McCaskill over Talent partially because Talent looks like a child molester. True story.

Great answer #1, The Democrats took about 1/2 the seats the republicans had open, You have to remember here in the states, the Neocons target the unintelligent and misguided and unhappy people and tell them the Democrats are why they are so unhappy and because they are not so bright and misguided, they believe them, you probably have 10 people on this board who have 20 names each and all they do is make up some trashy remarks. I proudly voted for the first time ALL Democratic, normally being a middle of the road person, Most people just think the present Republicans are so darn corrupt in every sense of the word, I think they have middle of the road Dems and Repubs that share allot of things that are good for the country, I just don't think the present Admin, cares 2 craps about anyone except there corporate friends. I typical believe in the checks and balances theory, where both parties can keep each other in check, that has been missing the last 4 years and it has not ended up well................. I probably will vote Democratic in 08, biggest reason again is to balance the power, I think the far right has done so much damage and we just might have to wait a few years till they are all out of office

I personally voted straight Democratic, but it was more of an anti-Republican vote than anything. As long as Bush had a Republican Congress, he did whatever he pleased --- almost to the point of abusing his power. But that's just MHO.
Thankfully, the Dems now have Congress, which, if nothing else, means someone will be there to confront Bush's totalitarian regime.

Senate: I voted for Kean (R-NJ) because Menendez is a crook, part of the corrupt McGreedy political machine.
House: I voted 3rd party because Pascrell (D-NJ) is an instituton who had no chance of losing, and I wanted to send a message against the two-party system.
County Exec and Sheriff: I voted for the incumbant Dems because they have both done a good job.
