How long did you leave the baking soda on the carpet? If it was a thin sprinkle for 10 minutes... BUZZ! wrong. Think of your refrigerator... get several boxes of it and liberally drench your carpet in the morning... and go to work for the day.... Leave the windows closed. Let the baking soda do it's work of absorbing the smell. Vacuum it all up when you get home.
If THAT doesn't work try putting out carcoal in tin trays left out for the day.. same thing... to absorb the smell. Best of luck.

The chemicals are coming out of the carpet materials. It will take bit for those to dissapate, and I can't think of a way to stop it. Open the windows for a few days and get some air circulation going to help reduce the strength.

Air it out, air it out and then air it out again. Open all windows
and doors whenever you get a chance. The smell is in the
fibers of the carpet. You might want to steam clean it and that
might help some.

It usually takes time and air. It is the gases coming off from the dyes, plastics, etc. You can also buy odor absorbing cans in the store...I can often find them in the grocery in the laundry section near the clothes hangers/mothballs/etc...and set them about. It would take many, but might be enough to get you through.

In mean time open windows and turn on the fan.
