Well, the pain comes from the blood clots/clumps. As for shortening your period - you can have those deprovera shots. After about 3 months you won't have a period at all. But for myself I don't think I would want to interfere with Nature. Good Luck.

Excessive exercise - that essentially lowers your % of body fat - will literally stop the period. Starvation does the same thing. I got on birth control pills back in my early 20's to make the cycle more regular, but it not only too care of that, but it also made the periods less painful.

I use the nuva ring and leave it in for 4 weeks instead of 3 weeks. I actually controlled it. My gyno just asked that I have one every 6 months. When I do have one, it only lasts about 3 days and is very light. I would recommend this to anyone, but I do advise that you speak with your gyno because everyone's body is different.

its suppost to last a week but if you want to shorten it some girls get on birthcontrol. And if you dont want to do that, when it starts hurting get a heating pad and put it on your stomache. Thats what i do and it works great^_^ It doesnt shorten your period though, it just makes it 70% less painful
hope my advice helped ya some

It lasts however long it lasts. There's nothing you can do about it.
If you have something new going on--they've suddenly become more painful or they used to last 3-4 days and now it's 7....then you should see your gynecologist.

Birth control pills- there is even one brand that lets you have only three or four periods a year. Don't know the name- ask your gyno.
