Why is it that these games are called Final Fantasy if they have sequels? I mean, if the first one was the Final Fantasy, there logically couldn't be any other Fantasies after that right?

i was going to mention the WHY behind naming it final fantasy, but the first answer already explained the reason for that.

the final fantasy name was just such a big seller. when it came out, there were rumors about final fantasy II having different classes, many kinds of airships (and an airship shop) and all sorts of crazy stuff.

final fantasy had such incredible sales, that other series started with the final fantasy name JUST to sell games.

ever play SaGa? the first three of this series were called Final fantasy Legend (1, 2 and 3) and were for the gameboy

ever play secret of mana? that's actually the second game in a series called seiken densetsu. the first game in this series is called Final Fantasy Adventure, and was for the gameboy

see, it's actually the name "final fantasy" that draws the sales.

kingdom hearts did the same thing, sort of. they didnt' outright say final fantasy, but they used the magics from FF, and there were several characters from FF, and i believe some of the keyblade names were from FF. because of this, the disney game was played by many FF fans.

the first movie from square, final fantasy: spirits within, didn't have much to do with final fantasy - other than the name of a monster, and that it had someone named Cid in it. but the name Final Fantasy bolstered their sales too

Actually, the games don't have sequels. Every game is a different story line with different characters in a different setting. The only game that has a sequel is Final Fantasy X, whose sequel is Final Fantasy X-2. As for the explaination for that, well, I think Final Fantasy is just an interesting title with no meaning besides the fact that the games' stories are fantasy. Plus, Square-Enix is a Japanese company, so to them, Final Fantasy, though I'm sure they know the meaning of "final," might just be a cool English title.

t6hey have sequels b/c they are normally different story lines. TRhe main characters are seen in only one game and they are truly a final fantasy the last thing you would think of and a fantasy realm where many roam the worlds within.

The first game in the series was made as more or less a last- ditch attempt to save the company (Squaresoft) which was close to bankruptcy at the time. In a bit of dark humor, the director of the game called it "Final Fantasy" thinking that it may be the last game the company made. But after it became popular the name of the series was so well known they just attached it to many of their other RPGs.

7! Squall replaced into way too emo and that i could not stand the entire draw magic project on 8. the entire love subject felt extra overseas than the different video games. You junction and equip magic to statistics and then you will be able to't even use it except you want to lose your stats! That witch boss replaced into lame, too. i have owned 8 because the day it got here out. I performed through it once and have not given it a second concept. FF7 is in my all time excellent 5.
