I would not lower the age, I would make it higher. I do not believe that any 18 year old is an adult.
I would make the age of becoming an adult 21. They have time to burn off their adolescence and become a real adult.

I must agree with everyone here too - the age should not be lowered. If anything it should be higher.
I know this doesn't help your assignment though. Maybe try to think of all the areas that you are really responsible and use those examples as to why the age should be lower. Give examples as to how you would handle the responsibility of being considered an adult at an earlier age. Do you follow the news and know what's going on around the world? If not, would having the right to vote at a younger age get you more interested in politics and what's going on in the world? Would having the right to drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes at a younger age deter teens from abusing these privileges? Think of all the things that come with being an adult and how you would handle it.

Nature gives us reproductive power at the age of as low as 11 & 12. If nature feels that we are ready to get our offsprings, we must be adult.
Concept of adulthood at 18 has come in the age of civil society where we have made our system too complex. Like any complex system, it takes time for a guy to get initiated in the current system of life. So, If I make law now, I will introduce multiple level of adulthood. People will be allowed to marry at early age say 12, but children can be had at 15 only. Driving and gun license will be allowed after 21 only and voting rights will be given after 25 only. This one in all 18 or 21 years of adulthood is bad.

I think you should be able to do anything, such as drinking, at age eighteen, however, as a teen younger than that I don't believe anyone has the skills to live as a responsible adult. At age eighteen you can be drafted in a military draft in war times and you never know when that is going to happen. So at that age I believe you are old enough to get busy living.
Can you really agree that a person at age 18 who is legally an adult, to a certain extent, can die for his or her country but can't drink a beer.
If you actually believe people shouldn't be allowed to vote until age 25, I disrespect you.

I don't think the age should be lower as it places too much responsibility on those who are still at home and in school!
The only argument I can come up with is that some states, irresponsibly in my view, have been trying children in adult courts for adult crimes! One should not be allowed to make a 16 year old an adult just because they want to put them in an adult prison with an adult sentence! That is how people are executed, like the kid that Bush killed that was incompetent and a child when convicted!
Bush said he would never allow an incompetent to be executed! Well, I guess he lied!

Honestly, I speak as a mother first and as an observer second. I would raise the age of becoming an adult to 23. Think about it.

i sure wouldn't lower it, as it stands now most ppl by the time they are 18 can do things they are not mentally or maturity wise prepared for and by 21 its even worse. i'm 23 and i know the kinds of trouble ppl my age can get into and we're not prepared for it most times....lowering the age would only allow even less mature and physically and mentally unprepared ppl make important and life changing decisions they are not ready for. there is so much life experience too you need for making these decisions too. i'm not trying to disrespect younger ppl just saying you can only be so mature and have so much life experience at a certain age...it really is true that with most ppl with age comes maturity and i know myself i have a long way to go.

So kids who are unruly (and generally big pains in the butt) could be sent to prison instead of doing crime knowing that all they will get is a warning. Kids 13-17 want to behave like adults so let them have the same punishments.

Yeah, I can't support you on this one. Teenagers are simply not emotionally or mentally mature enough to operate as adults.
