This might sound funny, use Vaseline petroleum jelly, and a little bit of ash. Like ash from a cigarette,or a fireplace, and rub it on the mark. The ash serves as a very mild abrasive. Also the sell ,at the hardware store, a product called, White ring remover. It is in the paint section. Please, never use acetone,(nail polish remover.) Paint,or any kind of paint remover, unless you want to refinish the whole table.

It depends on what caused the white marks. If it is from a glass or cup that was placed on varnished wood, it is likely the varnish got wet and separated from the wood surface. If that is the case, hire a repairman who does repair/refinishing work on wood furniture.
The only safe chemical to use is Murphy's Oil Soap and water. Murphy's will not harm varnish or wood.
