No, not torture by any stretch, for the USA to use.
The left has re-defined torture to include just about anything other than "O mr ali terrohamhed, would you like to tell us your plans? We'll give you a goat-sausage pizza party if you do. No? OK, well back to your taxpayer-provided prayer rug then. And we'll make sure that we don't offend you. If we do, here's a cell phone with the number of a good ACLU lawyer."
I say, whatever it takes. It won't make any difference on how they treat Americans they take prisoner. How much worse can it get then sawing off heads?

Yes
The problem with torture is it will rarely get you good information. The people that would tell you most anything rarely have information worth having, the others are usually working for a cause they consider holy, and will resist it really well.
The Israelis are the best at extracting information from detainees. They never use more than threats or perhaps a single slap to the face. Never what most of us would consider torture. They work on the principle of dominating the detainee, making them believe they already know almost everything they are asking about, working them so they begin to believe that resisting is futile.
Torture backfires, as well. It creates more martyrs and holy warriors than it will ever uncover.

I like loud music... And I don't sleep often. And I don't mind bright lights. And pratically live in the water. So I think the government would have a hard time torturing me with that.

Yes, it is torture, but that's not even really the issue. If torture actually did get us good information, there would at least be a case for it. Usually, though, someone being tortured is just trying to stop being tortured. They'll say anything for it to stop. It really isn't worth the pain caused. The information gotten still won't be much good. And you hurt yourself by martyring people. Others will rally for each one you break.

I believe the legal amount of force should be decided by the other side. Whatever the enemy does should be okay for everybody. If the enemy pulls out fingernails to extract information, we shouild be free to do the same.
If the enemy asks very politely to tell all, then we should do no more.

That's what they're doing civilian side. There's also a lot you're not saying. I call that playing cute. Remember that what comes around goes around. Never mind the Karma bit it's just cause and effect. So when it comes around to you, no sob stories, please. Just play cute. Besides. People will probably peg you for somebody who was one of those who brought it on. So it's only fair you should catch it as well. When everybody decides to be straight, things will change. Til then, try playing cute and see what it gets you. ' Okay? '

It is torture. But if you have a known terrorist and you are trying to save lives it may be necessary. I don't agree with it but I would not want to see people die to make a monster comfortable.
