Can I get my PC to record at diff speeds to get longer movies on a 4.7 GB disc?

What you want to do is look into your overburn options.

If movies some burning software will give you the option to "Fit on one Disc"

Or you can reencode the move with better compression

Hi!

Disc recording speed has nothing to do with the length of the movie, at least, not in the way you mentioned it!

To get larger movies on a DVD you need to use either a better compression algorithm, to downsample sound and video in the movie, to decrease the framerate, and/or to change the file type: avi/mpg/ etc...

this is not possible. a DVD 5, will only hold 4.7GB. You need a dvd 9 disk. you can get really good quality movies on a 4.7GB disk. Use CONVERTXTODVD to transcode
