Norten's is a very big cpu hog. If you want a really good anti-virus try avg free 7.5 it is great. I use comodo free firewall it also is a very good product.

Dump norten's it isn't as good as it used to be, trust me I know and made the switch.

I have had a similar problem with MacAfee. Outgoing e-mails were taking so long to send (that's when they actually went, and in some cases MacAfee actually stopped them being sent on the grounds that it might be worm activity). I turned off outgoing e-mail checking and it made a great improvement - may also work on Norton.

Sounds like you have an old, crapped out PC. Probably too little RAM, which you should consider upgrading. You shouldn't uninstall your security software, not if you're connected to the net. You'll leave yourself open to all sorts.

Run a full virus scan (after running live update enough times until it has all the updates), and if its still slow then consider upgrading the PC.

Hi
I have 2006 on mine and it takes forever to boot up but once booted it runs as normal. I am going to go for bit defend next see http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/
Surprisingly I think you could give it to another person and it would be OK. Maybe you should try and get a refund and tell them you don't like the product. that way they may improve it. My experience is they have a good reputation as being the best known and trade on that.

Should be OK as long as you didn't register the software.

Norton is the pits. I used it earlier this year. it's a waste of money, because it is the most bulky, and doesn't protect you, either.
