When a blood sample has been taken by crime scene officers and they say they have had a hit is that conclusive evidence that the sample they have can be definately matched to a sample on record? If so why would the police have to take another sample, I thought one sample would have been enough.

Don't they often get a partial sample and end up with a probability of a match (millions to 1) rather than an exact match? You'd have to sequence the entire DNA of the individual and sample for a 100% match.

Hence more samples may improve the odds.

they may need another sample to repeat the matching. There would be no other reason why they would need another sample.
