Is this the grill on the bottom that sits above the water?? I just use the brush provided and brush the gunk out, then the kitchen hose and squirt up there to loosen the dirt. I've never taken the unit completely apart. I'd be afraid of all the dog hair up there, LOL!

Congratulations! You did the right thing. I guess they tried to work you hard by telling you how dirty your carpets are and the air that you and your children breathe. I fell for it like 15 years ago and even traded in my Electrolux vacuum cleaner. Big mistake! It was not worth it. Super expensive, a mess to clean after each use, and after a few month the enthusiasm vanished and nobody wanted to empty the filthy water container. The motor from the Rainbow vacuum cleaner finally broke after 3 years of use. We were so frustrated with it that we just threw the thing in the trash. After that I bought another Electrolux vacuum cleaner canister style for around $800, not cheap, but it has superb suction power and after having used it for 12 years still works as good as the first day.
