You will get a hard core, hung over, post stress case sceaming about Bush and Viet Nam. And maybe that's rightfully so. All situations in VN were not the same.
After you fight someone hard you gain a certain respect for each other... VN is no different.
Politicians, Hanoi Jane and demonstrators who took it out on all veterans caused the worst scars.

History has shown we were wrong in how we handled Nam. Not the military but the politicians. Just as we closed the doors on hatred of Japan and Germany it is time to close the doors on what happened in Nam. It was their country and the people in the south were corrupt, very similar to what is happening in Iraq. Most Viet Nam vets understood the problems were with us as much as them. War is never good but sometimes it is necessary. Viet Nam was not justified and in many eyes neither is Iraq. History will sort it out but getting rid of Saddam did open new opportunities for the people.

My Dad is a Viet Nam Vet and he fully supports Bush having the troops over there. His view is that America needs to show that we are a strong country that won't retreat and be scared of the threats of other countries. Terrorists don't care about anyone else; the only thing they understand is force. Imagine if we had a weaker President that didn't show our strength. We have to show that we are not an easy country to overtake. I understand there are other reasons for the troops being over there-such as helping the citizens deal with their government so I'm speaking strictly being over there as a result of the attacks.

I'd say they hate it.. because they know what fate awaits many of those soldiers.. including, homelessness, loss of capacity, lack of health cover, lifelong fight to get a pension..
All while trying to re-adjust ot normal society after undertaking what could probably be genuinley described as a heroic period of service in Iraq.. US soldiers are doing it tough now.. and yet they will treturn to public outrage.. sinc Bush is on his way out..
For those returning soldiers.. life will be simular to the vietnam vets when they returned.. so Yeah.. I think most vets would be absolutely MORTIFIED!! and possibly they may be ready to embrace then too..

Early before the war, I went to a bunch of Iraq protests in our town, when I thought it would so some good at that time. I was discussing it with my mil, she thought it was all college students protesting because I live in a college town, and she said she would have felt out of place going, but I told her actually almost all of the people there were Vietnam vets all around her age! I was actually disappointed that the college students were so apathetic about protesting before the war; maybe they were all Republicans???
But anyway, there were hundreds of Vietnam vets protesting before the war started in our town, so at least some seemed to be against the war, and that was before they discovered there were no weapons of mass destruction.

I think that 80% of our nations Veterans (Vietnam or otherwise) think we are fighting a noble fight and will deal with what comes when it comes. I personally think you are listening to much to the media, try contacting some vets and ask them personally. Try going to a Vietnam veterans club or a VFW or American Legion and talk to them and find out for yourself, don't listen to the media hype....

his trip was pre-planned and supposed to signal the start of a new trade agreement but congress didn't let it through even though its still the republican congress. so he just looked stupid in vietnam mostly. he is good at looking stupid though and it marks just the beginning of his end.
i don't think vietnam vets think of him as their best friend anyway. vets are leaning democrat these days. its part of how democrats won the elections -- a lot of vets on the democrat ticket. they finally realize all these years later the republican dominated goverment of the last 26 years has done nothing but lie to them and dumped them off at the poor house. sad thing is i really don't think democrats have the answer for vets either.

I think that if you fight and win that you should keep it. If my counrty men have to die just to make a point then it`s not right. Then rebuild it for them. I say you take it keep it.Then others iwll think about mass`in with you because they know that about you.We have a strong country if we rebuild let it be ours.

It is amazing that Bush's timing is so consistently bad. He should not even be there.
