hope we exist

Makes you think about the movie 'The Matrix' doesn't it? Well, I was recently looking at the pictures the Hubble Telescope took, one is called the 'Ultra Deep Field', it is from a point taken near the Big Dipper, it is just 1/87,000,000 of the sky, and they said there are approximatly 11,000 Galaxies in it. This really makes my brain fry. I guess the point of this comment is that, with there being 11,000 galaxies in that one point, multiply that by 87,000,000 and there is a rough estimate of possibly 1/10 of the galaxies in the Universe. There are millions of stars in each galaxy, and possible billions of planets. So the total amount of planets in the universe is uncomprehindable. I think it is kinda wierd that everything about us is just too perfect. we have one moon, we are just the right distance from the Sun, we have animals, plants, air, water. We have technology, things to make our existence comfortable. It appears to be dream like. However, I don't think it is a dream. I am not sure what we are or what we are doing, but I think we are real, because of death and injury, if you were dreaming these things would not happen to preserve life, as you would not want to hurt yourself. We may be the rulers of this Planet, for now, but I do not think we are the smartest things in the Universe. I think we co-exist with other non-planetary entities. Perhaps they have control over us, every now and then allowing us a little more technology to see what we do. Perhaps we don't even look as we appear, but they decided we would look like this, and they designed all we know. Why would a spider have 8 legs, a centipede have 100, and we 2? Perhaps we usually exist as a spirit, and are given a body to be given the chance to do things, once we die we go back to the usual form. What made the dinosaurs? They lived for 65 million years on the planet, and then disappeared. Maybe what allowed them simply seen they were not improving or progressing and wiped them out. It then created primitave man, seen them progressing and allowed them "inventions", and eventually ended up where we are now. Honestly, there is probably something somewhere that could answer why we are here.

Sorry.it's real.A lot of times you don't want it to be, but it is. Our world is too complex for a dream. But I think the fact that you even ask this question makes us really exist. No one in a drea mwould ever have the forsight to question their reality.
(P.S., but if it helps, my friend once wondered if we were all just charachters on one giant Video game like SIMS)

I think first you have to decide if you're appealed to Platoon or Kant:)
These are both true. For eastern cultures mostly we're figures in a dream. For the European systematic, we just exist.
The answer for that question is purely personal. And it is only you to find it out!
Good luck!

What's with the "or"?
Seriously.

Take William James' "cash value" test for truth (and/or meaning if you have a logical positivist bent):

What difference would it make if we, in your terms, "existed" or if we were, in your terms "figures in a dream"? If you cannot tell me the difference than I hold that your question has no meaning.

That reminds me, once my teacher asked that what if we just woke up from a coma, that the life we are living is a dream. I don't think its a dream, because well, if it was I would have woken up already. A nightmare, or even a person's dream come true, its life.

The old test to see if you are in a dream:

Flip a lightswitch. If a light goes off, you are in reality.

From a philosphical standpoint, it sounds to me like you are familiar with the allegory of Plato's cave!

I'm pretty sure we exist, although I have thought that maybe all of Earth is a dream...but Earth is too complex for that to be true.
