How about books on tape, or possibly a computer game that relies on sound rather than sight? Also, don't forget things that smell good - perhaps a plant that she can tend that has scented leaves or blossoms; bath soaps and salts might be good too. Check with a museum or similar facility - maybe there's a way that you can give her a trip to a museum where she can touch things and experience them in ways other than sight. Maybe "tickets" for a trip to a park with you as her guide, redeemable whenever she wants to go; or even a trip to an amusement park (there are lots of rides that appeal to our ability to feel motion!). Try a nature center where there are exhibits that appeal to touch and scent, or a zoo where she can pet the animals (and not just a petting zoo - some will let a person with visual limitations come into contact with other types of animals - especially baby animals - in a properly supervised setting). If she doesn't have a cell phone, that would be a good gift - give her a pre-paid one that mom and dad won't have to worry about. Just close your eyes, and think about what you'd like to know more about!

A deaf boyfriend. Ok ok... guess I gotta be serious... but hey, that would be funny. But anyways. Get her a music player of some sort, since she can't see, or see very well, give her the gift of sound and music. Take her to a concert, sure she won't be able to see it, but she can feel and hear it. Through some of the work I've done with local charities for the blind, We've focused on sound and music based gifts, everything from instruments to music players. You'll think of something, I'm sure.

Does she have a seeing eye dog? If not then this would be the best gift she could get as the dog will help her while she is outside, and be her life long friend.

You could get her a computer that has a program on it that reads e-mails and things like that. She could also use it for her school work.

Good Luck :-)

How about something that smells really good. Scented lotions from B&B are great. Fill a box full of stuff that smells good. Christmas smells are the best....gingerbread, peppermint, christmas tree smells.....Each item she can pull out and enjoy....

If you can sew (machine or hand) you are in luck.

Sew a little bag 3''by3'' get potpourri and cotton balls and stuff it then sew it closed like a little pillow. It is nice to use other senses than eyes.

what about soft, cuddly things.. something they can hug, squeeze and feel safe with?

it's not educational or specifically for the blind but it sure feels good.

:D

what about a little keyboard? keyboards are nice... music is always wonderful for the blind.

i should know i'm legally blind.

Just about anything that will appeal to her other senses. Music; candy; a fuzzy, stuffed toy, clay, bubble bath.
