Use ,"Club Soda",some White Distilled Vinegar, and a couple of drops of dish washing soap, and a little water,in a pot. I heat this together on the stove till its warm. This has always gotten any stains out of my carpet. If the stain is really tough, I lay a cloth, soaked in this solution, over the stain and let it set awhile. Than use a scrub brush lightly on it .Stains Gone!

I hate to tell you this but the risk of ingraining the soot into the carpet when using cleaning materials and equipment available to the non-professional is very high so I would contact a local professional carpet cleaner who is properly equipped to do the job

i would go back to were you got the carpet from and complain that it is not stain resistant. they might pay to have it cleaned or replace the carpet worth a try :)

Depends on the colour of your carpet, please don't say it's white or cream!! You could try something natural like lemon juice or vinegar or there are stain devils for specific stains and there's vanish in stick, foam or spray variants, they may work as well. good luck x

Spray a solution of one part Oxi-clean(powder) and two parts water on the soot and scrub. If that doesn't work, try a solution of one part powdered laundry detergent and two parts water. One of the two should work.
