KnowYourselfFirst, I know the information that you are saying... I asking whether or not there is a special cable that can be used as a crossover cable or a regular Ethernet cable. It is a big hassle using a crossover cable to hook my Xbox to my PC then switching my Xbox to the router.

It depends on the kins of router you have. If your router has an 'uplink' button, then you can use cross over or straight through. Chances are that you have a standard home router. In that case, you have to use a 'straight through' cable from the pc to the router. Your crossover cable is mostly intended to conect pc to pc.

.
The purpose of using cross-over cable is to eliminate the need for a router.
In the RJ45 end plugs that go into the ports
the WIRE is crossed-over in a special way.

Therefore you can connect two computers to each other with the crossover.

To connect a computer to a router, you need regular ethernet cable, with regular ends
either RJ45
or USB
depending on the ports on the back of the computers respectively.

The cable that connects your router to your computer will be regular ethernet

The cable that connect your router to the modem is probably smaller twisted pair with RJ45 ends.

The cable that connects your modem to the incoming internet connection is probably twisted pair with RJ45 connections.

Only DIAL-UP uses phone line.

Crossover cables can only be used to connect nodes (computers) to nodes, to cascade hubs(swtiches, etc) to other hubs, or to connect nodes to the UPLINK port on a router, hub, or switch.
