You sound like you received the ages old Nigerian chain letter telling you they will give you a percentage of money if you just give them a valid account number to put money into. DO NOT BELIEVE IT!

That is why the scam works, is because they get suckers to put a few thousand bucks in an account, then you give them access, and they take your money out and it ends up in Africa or Hong Kong, or some other country that does not have as strict rules on businesses as in North America.

Check out the FBI website, or in Canada the RCMP website and they can give you some good info on what types of scams are going on and what to do about them.

Imagine their email reaches just 100,000 people. Out of that only 1% respond and they manage to steal $1000 per person, that is still a $1,000,000 jackpot for them.

It's very unlikely that this is even remotely real. You are not allowed to scam people (at least in most laws) and if caught will be prosecuted. The people scamming have clearly not been caught yet. Also nobody owns the internet so there are no real laws on content, which is why a lot of websites are full of made up drivle.

That's basically it, but don't believe emails unless they are from people you know or trusted companies; and even then be cautious.

Why are muggers 'allowed' on the street, why are motorists 'allowed' to speed?
Its not that people are allowed to do it; its illegal and they get punished if they get caught. Its that you can't stop people doing it in the first place.

Don't ever open an e-mail if you don't know who sent it.
How did they get oyur address to send you a letter through the post.?
Set up a new e-mail address, tell all your mates your new address then delete the old one. Your address is now on the scammers lists and they have you marked as someone who opens and responds to their e-mails.

For your own safety learn to protect yourself. You don't go out shopping leaving the front door open. Stop opening these e-mails.

Unfortunately, there isn't a real policing system on the Net but you have to learn to suss it out to survive. Ignore anything that asks for your details of any sort. Don't open emails from unknown sources as once you do you will be constantly targeted. Ignore this email - or block them. Don't worry! We've all been there!

Do you have one of his checks? If not, then dont worry about it. Oh and an attorney in Africa can only bring charges to you if you live in Africa.

Tell them where to go and Block their emails.
Make sure you contact your bank and tell them that you have lost your chequebook and to cancell all cheque transactions.
The African lawyer is a fake. Report this to the police.
