What are your beliefs on animal testing? Do you allow it to some degree?

I did a whole debate on animal testing last year in seventh grade. I was opposed to it. Our team won! I can't find my speech, but here's some of the questions I asked during the clash:

There are many alternatives to animal testing that work just as well or better, so why is animal testing really necessary?

What if you were an animal? Think about it literally. How would you feel if you were being tested on?

Sure, I'll admit it, Animal testing has found cures to many diseases, but do you know how many people have died from tests gone wrong? They end up harming people 61% of the time.

There is a kind of test where an animal is burned alive to measure severe burns on live tissue. Why is a test like that even necassary?

Did you know that cosmetic companies perform more than 50% of animal tests? So half of all the tests performed aren't even used for medical purposes.

Animal cruelty is against the law. How is conducting expirements on and millions of animals every day not cruel?

I’m sure you can agree that animals have feelings just like humans, right? You can tell when they’re happy, sad, angry, and so on. So if animals have all those feelings, wouldn’t it make sense that they can also suffer?

Also, here's some quotes I found:

Ask the experimenters why they experiment on animals, and the answer is: "Because the animals are like us." Ask the experimenters why it is morally okay to experiment on animals, and the answer is: "Because the animals are not like us." Animal experimentation rests on a logical contradiction. ~Charles R. Magel

God loved the birds and invented trees. Man loved the birds and invented cages. ~Jacques Deval, Afin de vivre bel et bien

We have enslaved the rest of the animal creation, and have treated our distant cousins in fur and feathers so badly that beyond doubt, if they were able to formulate a religion, they would depict the Devil in human form. ~William Ralph Inge, Outspoken Essays, 1922

The question is not, "Can they reason?" nor, "Can they talk?" but rather, "Can they suffer?" ~Jeremy Bentham

Those were just a few of the things I used for my speech! Gosh darn it all, if only I could find my actual speech! lol.

Being that humans are animals too - absolutely. Look how much we have learned and how far we have come because of animal testing. Yes it is difficult for the "layperson' to watch but so is any surgery. If we can improve the quality of life for even one person it is worth it. BTW I am also for organ donation and whole body donation for scientific research. Having been born with an illness I want science to continue to learn and develop better treatments even if I am not here to benefit.

Animal testing for cosmetics is wrong and superficial. Animal testing for scientific purposes (i.e. studies of some variety for cancer of the like) is ok, but not 100% moral. Animal testing for medicine and household products is wrong and immoral.

It will depend on what type of material you are trying to develop and value it offers to mankind. For e.g. lets say you come up with this fantastic idea and develop a material that you believe will stop internal bleeding. Whom would you test this on? What will be your model? Would you test this material against flow of water? I think not, since it will not work.

Testing products on animal is insane. This should be totally prohibited.

I agree with it, but only for medical reasearch under very contolled conditions. There is no reason why the animal should have to suffer though.

If women want to poison themselves for the sake of a lipstick, that should be their choice.

it depends, i dont like it that much, but as long as the animals arent being tested for something that can hurt them in any way, or danger them.
