Yes; in my opinion what is missing is Jim Steinman's production techniques and backing vocals (along with Todd Rundgren). These gave what Steinman describes as the "Wagnerian Rock" quality that made Bat I so special.
Try and get hold of Steinman's solo album "Bad For Good" - it's almost as good as Bat I

meatloaf should have retired some time right after his most memorable performance not as a rock artist as much as the camp character of eddie in rocky horror. much more memorable than any bat out of hell.

it has a lot to live up to so at first hearing i found myself compare it song for song to bat1, but I'll try and listen again with a more open mind, but yep it is lacking in something
