Date eachother

Have time together alone and time for yourself alone.

Don't argue about eachother's families....there is nothing either one of you can do about the in-laws.

Don't let the kids sleep in your bed.

Don't try to fix her problems just listen to them, your arrogance is irritating.

Don't ask him do do the tthings you need him to do, ask him to do the things he thinks you need him to do. Then He'll do the others instead.

Don't call him 50 million times a day...do you want him to make a living to pay for your beautiful house or play patty cake on the phone with you all day? He loves you...get over it.

and for God's sake HAVE SEPERATE BATHROOMS!!!! (he has to clean his own)

I AGREE AND DISAGREE.

Sometimes I have problems that I want him to fix! Arrogance has nothing to do with it. I simply ask him to fix it.

I will always ask him to do what I need him to do! Open communication is key... If I can't come right out and ask and he can't either, then that is no marriage at all.

I call just to say "I love you" or sometimes I call to thank him for doing something for me. Does anyone call a million times a day??? If he has a problem with me calling just once a day then he needs to tell me.

Separate bathrooms ? Heck NO... We need to be tolerant of each others ways and desires about the bathroom. The toilet seat down thing is NOT an issue. It is however LAW due to the fact that we have a cat who seems to enjoy swimming and I think that's GROSS !! Seat DOWN or YOU give the cat a bath in BLEACH !! We both agree!

Your points are good ones and if they work for you then you have a good thing going!! Best Wishes on a happy life!!! Its YOUR choice!

I don't know if I qualify for having a long happy marriage. Happy for sure. We are very much in love with each other. We miss each other when separated for just a few hours. We're on each others mind in those few hours, so I'll have to say that we've got it bad.
It's hard to say if we qualify about the long part. Would you count fifty three years as long, or not too long ?
I'll go along with some of your ideas, but not all. Nope, I won't say which ones. Each couple has to find their own.

I'd have to add a couple: talk to each other, and really listen to each others point of veiw--be honest-- Give and take, be partners(don't agree with seperate bathrooms)...--Don't sweat the small stuff! Otherwise yes I do agree!

mmmmm, no. I don't agree. I think that if you set rules like this then it's not a real and natural marriage. I think that the key to a good marriage is being best friends with your spouse and letting everything else come naturally

The biggest key to having a long marriage wasn't in your list. The biggest key is HONESTY. Manipulation of the other person is a near guarantee of a short marriage.

1 - yes
2 - yes
3 - yes
4 - yes, unless they're having a nightmare
5 - goes both ways
6 - i don't get what you're saying with that one?
7 - I think one phone call per day is good
8 - not everyone can afford a house with multiple bathrooms. We have 1.5, but I don't care, we share one bathroom upstairs and we enjoy it.

Married 15 years and I completely agree. Although I'd move separate sinks to the top of the list. :)

it's dangerous to make rules, and some of those are pretty specific. i'd have to say no, those are not necessarily the keys to a happy marriage, but if they work for you, great.
