There is a problem with your circulation, cause could be Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, an injury to your wrist or repetitive strain injury! Do you also get pins and needles especially if your arm is hanging down?
With those symptoms you may need surgery. Local Aneasthetic and a tiny scar! I've had this in both wrists (not at the same time thank goodness).

I'm also a care worker.

See your Doctor and let him decide if it is anything more serious
only s/he is qualified to give a correct diagnoses!
In the mean time keep the arm raised and use your left hand as much as possible! You could even try a wrist support or a simple bandage round the wrist! This will help keep the wrist straight which helps circulation!

Try to narrow down the 'numb' areas.

If MAINLY the thumb, index finger & inside edge of the middle finger then it's probably 'carpal tunnel symptom'.

This can be cause by a repetitive strain or inflamation of the tissues surrounding the carpal nerve. Treatment varies from anti-inflamitories, direct steroid injections, or surgery.

You don't say how old you are, but it sounds like you may have had a small stroke!
If you could have had back trauma then it maybe nerve damage, as I suffered similar problems after a sports injury which for lasted years. ( I could not feel my little finger and the two fingers alongside!)
If you can't think of any injury you may have suffered, then I would get to the Doctor and have some tests done.

Sensation requires functioning sensory nerves and movement requires functioning motor nerves. No feeling (numbness) involves a sensory nerve. Do you drop things because you are not able to feel (properly grasp) them (a sensory nerve issue)? It is possible that you may have 2 types of nerves involved but single nerve involvement is more common. Nonetheless - you should seek medical attention sooner rather than later - to avoid permanent nerve injury and loss of function.

did you have pins and needles in your hand before it started happening? Have you fallen / damaged your neck / back sometime in the last year to 18 months? If so, then it maybe that you've trapped a nerve, so get to an osteopath who will be able to sort you out.

You've actually spent too much time on the computer. YES it's true, take a two day brake from unimportant things on the computer. I took a week away from the computer once.

This could be something as minor as carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) or as major as multiple sclerosis (MS). Go to your G.P as get yourself sorted out. Good luck.
