I have recently purchased a portable drive for my laptop (New drive does not come with any software). I want to format and partition this drive so that I can have up to 5 different partitions. One of these drives will be for a Database (MySql) I intend to install. Can someone please guide me through this process? Thanks

the easiest way would be to use 3d party partitioning software, for example disk director. all you need is to install it, and choose what you want to do with the partitions, then follow the wizard:

If it's a windows OS use the Disk management tool once the drive is connected.
