I'm 35.

U2 lost track of reality when they became too political ( my opinion ), but I do enjoy their earlier tunes.
RHCP are good musicians- the greatest hits cd I have and like it, they seem to be more progressive in their attempt to project new sounds, which is pretty cool.
Madonna- she's all over the place; I love her early tunes but I also like her Ray of Light cd... relevant? Yes, she broke the mold in the 80's with her sexuality and wasn't afraid to flaunt it, but now that she is older, it doesn't wear as well.
Depeche Mode- awesome band, Just can't get enough. Their style announced new wave as an alternative; Policy of Truth is one of my personal faves by them.
New Order triumphed over tragedy to fuse new wave with pop, Power Corruption and Lies is one of their best albums.

from the top.

U2 r old hat and have/had connections 2 the IRA. bono started out with good intentions but now seems wrapped up in his own self importance. can't bear 2 listen 2 them now. make me cringe.
chili peppers r cool, if they can manage 2 stay outta re-hab.
madonna, ummm, praps i'd better say pass. my hubby actually thinks she's nowt but an old slapper! and moving here 2 the uk and re-inventing herself as british is laughable. she has no musical merit.
depeche mode, aren't/weren't they a plastic boy-band pop? ditto also not my idea of musical entertainment.
new order, now ur on my wave length, i liked them. but haven't heard or listened 2 anything recently. agree with G above, Joy Division were better
my age?
i'll say 30-40, if that helps.
i'm surprised u didn't mention simple minds, now they were super cool. loved them.

I like almost everyone you named, but none of them are on my list of favorites. They are all still very relevant to the evolution of music & entertainment. It has nothing to do with age & everything to do with talent & preferences.
