You need to install the VIDEO DRivers from DELL. Its also possible that the install did not go 100% and the video setup was incomplete.
Go to the Dell web site and download the drivers.

Have you updated all the drivers for the computer? I would start by going to Dell's website and go to the support area. Then the support area for your Laptop. From there you should be able to find all the drivers.

Right click on your desktop,. Choose properties. Settings tab. On screen resolution choose 1024x768. This setting may not exist if XP didn't install your correct video drivers. If not, install your video drivers, then do th above.

I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems.
Some RAM/hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.

you dont want IE7. I downloaded it when it first came out and it totally screwed up my pc, so I had to go back and reset my settings to factory settings. I lost everything because of IE7. and yes I have an XP.
