It represents you not doing your job and cleaning them up.

Mass leaf drop is a sign of weather cooling down usually around autumn and early winter. This is normal for deciduous trees.

Plants drop them because - there is less light for photosynthesis,
- frost could freeze them and rupture the cells, and snow will catch on them weighing down and potentially breaking the branches off a tree.
