The Convivio
by Dante Alighieri
Translated by Richard Lansing
1998

to quote the opening from Dante himself:

As the Philosopher says at the beginning of the First Philosophy, all men by nature desire to know. The reason for this can be and is that each thing, impelled by a force provided by its own nature, inclines towards its own perfection.

To quote Spider:

You do realize there are 73 chapters in 4 books total! It makes Harry Potter look like a short shory.

This is a free translated version of the whole book available online - how great is the internet?
Anyway this translation was done in 1998 and (from what I have read) is in good clear modern English.
I have not read all of the Convivio and therefore cannot recommend it as being good or bad. I can say that I enjoyed The Divine Comedy and think that is a fantastic read. I would say that if you have not read any Dante the Divine Comedy may be a better place to start as it is both a shorter book and as it is more highly regarded in general possibly a better book.
Anyway I must commend you for having an interest in medieval literature and hope you enjoy whatever you read.
