I use a portable steamer.....chemicals sometimes ruin the color in the leather.

do not steam gum on leather. You'll wind up with a sloppy mess. 1st, pick off what you can. 2nd, take a can of compressed air (like the kind you use to clean of your computer keyboard, can be found at any office supply store). Turn the can upside down and spray the gum. It will freeze it, but without putting water on it like the ice will (I think its a colder freeze). Carefully remove what wants to come off. Fingernails work best because they wont damage, and heavy duty plastic knives work well, too. If you have to use metal, be gentle. Get the rest off with goo gone. I'm pretty sure it's okay for leather, but read the label and try it somewhere that it cannot be noticed.

ice cubes....freeze it and chip it...be careful not to chip the leather....or take it to an upholstery shop and have it removed professionally

If you freeze it with ice it should come right off.
