I am 11 weeks pregnant. I know that I am supposed to be eating very healthy and eating twice as much as before, but sometimes I can't eat at night. I feel hungry until I go around the food, and then I just lose my appetite. What do I do- is this harming the baby if I just eat a small portion? I'm trying the best I can.

Did a doctor tell you that you must eat alot of extra food because you are pregnant? You dont have to eat alot of extra food.Take your vitamins and iron and eat normal and the baby will be fine. The baby does not get any food you eat.The baby just gets the vitamins, iron, minerals and cacium from you.Try to eat but dont over eat because you are pregnant.I have 6 boys. All good birth weight. My first one I could not eat or would even forget to eat alot of times. He was 7pounds and 14 1/2 ounces. My fifth one I threw up day and night.Just the smell of food turn my stomach.I did force myself to eat some.He weight 8pounds and 12ounces.

First of all that stuff about you eating twice as much is nonsense. That's how so many woman wind up still looking pregnant after they give birth. The doctor says even when you are pregnant you should eat the same as before, healthier though, but the portion shouldn't increase because you are pregnant. My doctor told me that doctors would like a woman to gain anywhere between 25 & 40 lbs when pregnant, in order for the mom to stay healthy and the baby to be healthy. You are NOT eating for two, you are eating for YOU, and the baby simply gleans nutrients from whatever you eat. That's why it's important to eat right, whatever you eat baby eats. I don' t think you are hurting the baby, it's pretty early in the pregnancy too. Alot of woman suffer from nausea from food and can't eat a lot in the beginning. So eat what you can and make sure you are taking those prenatal vitamins to supplement for nutrients not obtained thru eating. During my pregnancy I gained 25 lbs. and after I had my son I was back at the weight I was before I got pregnant, and had a perfectly healthy baby. Just because you are pregnant doesn't mean you have to eat every minute of the day. You eat same as normal; and that's when you are hungry. When you're pregnant that baby has a way of letting you know when you need to eat. You will feel it. So don't worry, it's not good for baby anyways, ina couple months you will probably notice your appetite up and see the results of it too. All the best.

Don't worry about that right now. You shouldn't be eating twice as much, even towards the end. Eat healthy foods when you are hungry. It seems like you have mild morning sickness that just makes you lose your appetite (not your food). Find foods that you can handle. Maybe try bland foods that don't have much of a smell. It will start getting better and once you are in your 2nd trimester, you will probably will be dealing with cravings!!

Eat until you feel comfortable and you really AREN'T eating for 2 nor are you supposed to be eating twice as much. It will not harm the baby at all. The baby gets everything it needs from you, even if you're not eating. Just eat what you feel comfortable eating and take some vitamins if you're that worried about not providing your baby with the right nutrition. Good Luck!

Eating for two is a myth. As long as you are eating from all the food groups and at least 3 times a day you will be fine. Things will get better as you go in the pregnancy. Your appetite will pick up as the baby gets bigger. Gaining to much weight is just as bad as not gaining enough.

Ok, first of all you don't have to eat twice as much food. Right now your baby is the size of a nut, and doesn't need that much in the way of calories.

What my OB's told me, and what has worked for my last two pregancies is this. Eat when you're hungry, but make what you eat healthy. Morning sickness sucks, but it will go away. And it doesn't always just happen in the morning ;-). As long as you're taking your prenatal vitamins, and what you do eat is worth it (nutrition wise) you'll be just fine.

Listen to your body, and good luck!

your proabbly losing your appetite when you see food because of nausea at least this is what happened to me. Just eat when you are hungry and make sure you are eating the right foods... fruit and veggies are very important. Once you get into your 2nd trimester im sure your appeitite will get a lot heartier, plus you'll be feeling a lot better. All you can do is try the best you can do :) Good luck.

YOu actually are not suppose to eat twice as much. I couldn't eat for the first three months of pregnancy I had nausia so bad. When you do eat make it small portions and make it count. Eat fruit or veggies, cheese and drink plenty of milk. Take your vitamins and dont stress. It is really normal for this to happen, as long as you are not dehydrated or losing a ton of wieght you and baby will be perfectly fine, I promise.

It's ok, alot of women have this problem in the first trimester. Just eat, what , and when you can. Some women myself included lose wieght in the first trimester. It should get better. One thing I tried when I wasnt feeling up to eating at all, was to do something else while I was eating, like read the newspaper or watch tv, to keep your mind off the fact that you were eating.

Small portions and often. That's the key. And if you skip a meal once in a while, you're fine. I'm 14+ weeks pg with #3 and still have trouble with some meals. Try eating what sounds good, but eating small meals often is what will help with your nausea. Good luck!
