One should do a disk cleanup everyday and defrag two or three times a week if the computer is used moderately. This may take awhile if you have never defragged. Try this.
You may need to do a Disk Cleanup..and be sure you have all the boxes checked....
Defrafg your C drive or what ever is your
main harddrive... Make sure you have selected the C Drive.... This is called a Disk Defragmenter...
Go to : Start...
programs..
accessories...
system tools..
Do this often...
Try the System Restore which takes you back to a time when your computer was working good.
Go To:
start
programs
accessories
systems tools
system restore
This process is completely reversable. And does not remove your personal files. Just go back one checkpoint at a time until your puter is working good again.

All the little icons in the task bar start up and run constantly (when you turn on you set), causing a traffic jam. Most people keep their t-bar full (for convience), which loads up and over works the RAM. You can and should delete (out of the task bar) seldom and/or never used programs. Who knows--- this may, or may not solve your problem (it did for me) but it's the easiest and quickest to try before more elaborate measures. Luck to ya.

You might be one of the 98 percent of users who dont understand what ram is or how your PC works! You propably have way too much crap runnin in the background or on startup! Ram is where all your programs are loaded to when you run them! Lets say you have 128 megs of ram, how fast do you think your PC is gonna run if you are running 256 megs worth of software? Its like tryin to pull a loaded cattle trailer up a hill with a VW!

Working with a slow computer can be time consuming as programs/ applications take a long time to start. This problem is more pronounced in computers which have been used for 6 or more months. More information at http://fixit.in/slowcomputer.html
