Honor is fine, but I will not obey. I have never been very good at following orders from anyone. I sure won't let some man control me either. I don't expect him to obey me either, I just don't think that is right. You should respect each other, not obey them.

Got married in Ukrainian Catholic Church in Canada over 17 years ago. Wanted traditional vows - so to love, honour, obey, and also marital fidelity (which you sure don't hear in vows any more!).

We were married by a Baptist pastor. During our pre-marriage counseling I explained to my husband and to the pastor that I did not like the sound of that word and I wanted my marriage based on mutual respect and caring. That way, there would be no need to use the word OBEY. My husband was okay with it. The pastor didn't like it but he still performed our wedding.

I was fine with the word OBEY at my wedding because they said it my husband too. As long as the marriage is equal and we both obey each other, its all good. :)

Yes we used it 18 months ago. Married christian (non-denominational). People take the word obey literally. I believe its more of a submission. This to me means I have the final decision but I have to take her input on issues. No smary man would ever just tell his wife what to do because marriage is a partnership.

NO RELIGION, THE MARRIAGE VOWS THAT HAVE BEEN TAKEN PLACE IN CHURCHES WAS INSTITUTED BY AND FOR THE CHURCH FOR CENTURIES TO MAKE THE COUPLES TO BE, LOCKED IN THAT INSTITUTION OF WORSHIP... NOWHERE IN THE BIBLE DO WE FIND "GOD"
TELLING A COUPLE OR RELATING WHAT YOU HEAR IN
THESE CHURCH CEREMONIES...ESPECIALLY TO ADAM AND
EVE, THE SO CALLED FIRST COUPLE ON EARTH!!! THAT'S
WHERE THE VOWS SHOULD HAVE BEEN STATED IN THE
FIRST PLACE!!! BUT IT'S ONLY NATURAL TO HONOR AND
OBEY THE ONE YOU CHOOSE TO SPEND THE REST OF
YOUR LIFE WITH REGARDLESS OF RELIGIOUS CEREMONIES OR FAITH OR WHATEVER............
