8 months pregnant and folding laundry while I watched the breaking news, only to see the second plane hit the tower; I knew everything would change fundamentally and that few of those changes would be for the good of all
my daughter is also 14, here in Ontario, Canada
she was afraid of airplanes flying past (we lived in a highrise then) for several months afterward
it seems big things happen in each generation and our societies are changed by it and we have to cope and adjust. but cope and adjust we do, as your country taught the free world during the second world war. try to remember how you felt about 9/11 so that when your kids experience their own fundamental change, you'll be able to see this situation in better perspective and so you can better help them to cope with whatever traumatises society; keep that stiff upper lip and a smile whenever possible, and when it isn't fake it. 9/11 changed things, but change is inevitable an 9/11 didn't happen just on one day, but for years before and will continue for years after; the circle of life keeps spinning

I was 9 or 10 and was on a trip to NY with my brother. We were supposed to visit the World Trade Center that day, but instead we had coffee 3 blocks away from it. So when the planes crashed, we were 3 blocks away. I'm 14 now. It was horrible.

I was at work - that was a tuesday morning. The guy in the desk next to mine had a radio and he said that an airplane hit the world trade center. At the time I thought for sure it was a small plane - I never imagined that it would be two big one's. I went home early that day just to watch TV.

I was driving in my car in CA, on my way to work, and heard the local DJs talking about how the "terrorists will get theres" and I didn't know what happened until a few minutes later when they said why they were so upset. When I got to work (I'm a HS teacher) the students were really confused and didn't know what to think or whether to be scared, angry, or both. They had no idea that other countries didn't like the USA! Anyway, we watched CNN all day...Not much teaching went on that day. RIP all of those who lost their lives.

I was working across the river in NJ.I saw the smoke coming from the first building.I hoped it was an accident at first.Minutes later I knew it wasn't.For the rest of the day I continued working traveling around Hudson County,NJ.First the second building hit, fell. Then, the first, everyone stopped and watched as they went down.We knew the death toll would be high. Many of the people including myself, had friends are family over there. Many were crying. The buildings burned for days and smoldered for weeks.

In my dorm room at George Washington University, which is a few blocks away from the White House and the State Department. I actually watched the second plane hit on TV, then went to class. My professor actually said "I hear there's something going on in New York, but I'm sure it's nothing." (Well, I'm sure he's kicking himself for thinking that now.)

I remember getting out of class and seeing people everywhere and the roads packed. I made it back to my dorm room, where I'd just missed my Dad calling to make sure I was OK. He took the home numbers of my three roommates and called all their families to let them know they were OK before calling back to talk to me (all our phones were out). My dorm at the time was 3 blocks from the State Department, and at the time, we still thought a bomb went off there. Probably the scariest day of my life.

I know it's not the same as someone who was in NYC at the time, but it was still a harrowing experience.

I was in bed in CA, and my daughter woke me up, and said "An airplane just crashed in to the World Trade Center"; I woke up thinking, "maybe there is a lot of "fog".
Matt Lauer and Katie Couric, were saying the same thing on the "Today Show"; when all of a sudden another plane crashed in to the other "Twin Tower".
After that we just listened to the news and heard one plane after another crashing, and from then on...................HISTORY....

I was watching the news, when the second plane hit the tower, that was when I knew the first plane was no accident, but deliberate. It shocked me to the core, this can not happen here, but it did. It affected me deeply and changed my sense of security
forever.

I was on the golf course. The course was next to an airport and it got eerily silent. We watched the CNN coverage on TV in the club house...most horrific day imaginable in modern times.
