If there is no such thing, what about a small sized turtle, that will remain small for about four years (college).

Thanks!

When I say that they don't need water...I mean they can live out of water, not that they wont have anything to drink.

You can go to www.faunaclassifieds.com or www.kingsnake.com for more information; or do a google search.

Generally the best 'out of water' turtle is an Eastern Box Turtle. But beware, they can live for way over 40 years. They have a good temperment, even the wild caught ones. BUT BE SURE THE ONE YOU ADOPT IS CAPTIVE BRED. Wild caughts usually have mites, parasites, and so on. Do your research before buying, =).

If you want a tortoise, get a Sulcatta. Theyre awesome. For some reason their personalitys remind me of hamsters.lol. But remember, they live a LONG time just like any other tortoise/turtle. And they can get big. Most people just get one and then think they can dump it somewhere if it gets too big for the tank its been kept in. =/.

Good luck!

that's a "red eared slider" or "painted turtle". both inch length is largely its babyhood. There are some sub species that get diverse sizes, although the smalles is probable 10-15 inches. they could get higher or smaller, counting on how a lot room they have of their tank. do not sneak it in. once you purchase an animal you're taking the duty or elevating a baby. From what you really suggested, it fairly feels like you're extra worried about the variety of pets you carry at the same time. you're also asking very uncomplicated questions about their care, which demonstrates that you're thinking a puppy earlier doing the slightest little bit of study on it. you're saying that you'd be busy, so that you anticipate someone to provide you each and every and each and every of the advice, and then you get it proper now? wondering about a sparkling puppy takes time. Any to blame individual will spend much better than per week or 2 attending to understand about the species. i'm very sorry to look harsh or rude, yet I hate seeing youthful children getting so enthusiastic about a sparkling animal, that they forget perfect care and concerns for the destiny. for example, the actual shown actuality that they oftentimes stay to round two decades, yet you're in college, or keen about college, so the animal will be ignored or moved to a sparkling living house. only giving an animal away isn't a life like selection. Mabey not for a turtle, yet for most animals, switching residences is amazingly annoying (you reported the possiblility of rehoming your canine). All i'm putting forward is only decelerate. you've the entire life to stay, and quicker or later you'll stay far out of your moms and dads without every person to inform you that you may't get a puppy, or threaten to eliminate your modern-day ones. then you truthfully will do in spite of you want, yet for now, take it user-friendly.

The Box Turtle is a desert species. But it's not really very small, about as big as a softball.
I had one when I was little. My dad picked it up in New Mexico during migration. I fed it dried bugs that came in a can. I think it was "turtle food", but that was about 45 years ago!
I also had a terrapin (water turtle). I don't remember where it came from, probably the irrigation ditch, but it ate snails that also came from the irrigation ditch.
BTW, girl turtles have a flat bottom shell. Boy turtles have a curved bottom shell. They fit together like puzzle pieces. You figure out the rest! lol

Box Turtles only need drinking water and not very much of it. I used to raise them. They are really easy to take care of. You can get one that will stay in a 10 gallon tank for all of your college years and maybe well after. You cant buy the babies though, the carry salmonella but you can buy a "young" one. They are cute and dont eat much and dont make a huge mess either

Box Turtles.
Eastern Box Turtle, Ornate Box Turtle.

Small Tortoises (land)
Russian Tortoise

It will stay small, but what do you plan to do after your four years in college? [they aren't the easiest pets to take care of, but easier than a dog I guess]
