Besides the cost - private schools (in the USA) are so much better than the public schools, however, this also depends on the area where you live. My daughter has her girl in a private school (because of the quality of the education) but they are in the process of moving. She's checked into the schools, for that area, and found out the public schools there are fantastic because the businesses donate tons of money to the schools.

It depends on the private school and the public schools. There are private schools who hire unqualified, unlicensed teachers just as there are private schools that hire top of the line teachers. It depends on the tuition they charge. Of course if the tuition is high then there is less diversity in the school, and the parents have more say in how the school is run and they are NOT educators. Public School teachers are paid a set rate by the community and negotiated sometimes by a union. This same community and school board and union also determine what standards their teachers must reach and demonstrate as educators. Public schools are held to testing standards that parents are informed of, Private schools are not. That is not to say that private schools do not have standards, it is just the standard they choose to set for themselves. Public schools must educate all students, private schools get to pick and choose. Again this limits diversity. Of course this insulation is what most parents who choose to send their children to private schools are looking for. Private schools may and do promote religious, or other agendas which is their right. Public schools may not do this.

I'm sorry, but you are sadly mistaken. Public education is so much better than Private schools. You can learn a lot more in the public setting. You learn to deal with people that are all over the spectrum. These people will be your neighbors, community members or even your friends. Who's to say that all public schools are bad? Mine isn't. Sure we have our quirks, but we are a strong school, an urban high school regardless. In private schools you only meet people of certain areas, but in public education one can meet any type of person, I think its an insult to say that Private Education is considered better, its a false conception.

"Better" is a subjective, not objective, judgement. What may be "better" to one person may not be "better" to another.

That said, I believe that private schools have the following advantages over public schools, which can result in higher academic ratings for private schools:

1. Private schools can set very high standards for admission. They don't have to take every child that applies, and the most sought-after certainly don't. So right from the start they can get the kids who are brightest and most motivated. Public schools have to take all kids, which means that de facto they start out at a disadvantage.

2. Parents who put their kids in private schools are generally highly motivated to do what is necessary to help their kids achieve academic success. They are paying extra, sometimes a lot extra, and they know that if their child does not do well in the school, the school can throw the kid out. Most of the best private schools do not want to spend a lot of time with unmotivated underachievers. If the parents are called in and told their kids are failing, the school expects them to do whatever is necessary to motivate the kids. In public schools, there isn't much the school can do. They cannot even compell the parents to come in for a conference. Teachers have to spend a lot of time dealing with kids that have problems that parents ought to be taking care of, often at the expense of the brightest kids.

3. Private schools can attract the best teachers, because they frequently can pay a higher salary than public schools and can promise better working conditions. Teachers know that at a private school, they will not have to deal with kids who swear at them, disrespect them, or even physically assault them. They will not have to deal with parents who threaten to sue them because they say their kid is failing. The teachers know that parents are 100% behind them at a private school. They also know that they will not have to spend as much time dealing with administrative issues as public school teachers do.

4. Private schools can unload their failures any time. All the administration has to do is tell the parents their kid isn't cutting it, or is a disruptive influence, or would do better somewhere else, and the kid is gone. At many public schools, it's darn near impossible to get a kid out, even if that kid is a danger to teachers and other kids.

I think that's just for starters. It's an unfair comparison. If public schools could do the same things the private schools can, the comparison would be valid. As it stands, it's a comparison that is very unfair.

In order to answer this question, you would have to check out the schools in your area. I have worked in a public school as a Teacher Assistand, and I have worked with some great teachers, it's the district that isn't great. The teachers have to teach on a schedule, no matter if students get it or not. They have like 25 students in one class, which is harder for the teacher to make sure every student got it. In private, it's a PLUS to have a smaller class size. It's like having a second family. I have worked in a private school as a Junior Kindergarten teacher and it was a wonderful experience.

Private Schools serve as a better education, I went to one for about a year, it is very advanced... They are also smaller less of a threat to harm, Unlike public schools however there is a bigger diversity of people to know, where private schools don't, but they sure do put out some pretty smart kids, costly too, but some find it worth while

I honestly don't believe that private schools are better than public schools. There are more necessary qualifications for public school teachers than private school teachers. Public schools are held more accountable for student achievement in order to get funds.

It's hard to categorize one group of school over the other. In some ways private schools can be better but in other ways public schools are better. Some reasons that private schools are better include the teaching of values and respect. Often these teachings are left out of public education because of public funding and seperation of church and state. Also private schools often require more of their students academically. Some reasons that private schools are not so good. Because of private funding they often tailor to the largest contributors (this includes curriculum). Because they are private they limit enrollment based on gender, or learning ability. It is not uncommon for a student with learning disabilities or emotional disabilities to be rejected or even dismissed. Teachers are not required to be certified. There is usually a lot of fund raising and a lot of politics with the parents. Ways public schools are better. For students with special needs (even relatively minor) have easy access to services. Because of public funding there is not overt discrimination by the school. Some reasons why public schools are bad include large class size, bureaucracy, and safety (in some districts). Basically, we all want the best for our children. Depending on your values, financial status, and your school district the best school for your child will vary. Please don't categorize all public schools as bad and all private schools as good. I have seen plenty of bad private schools as well as good public schools.

In whose opinion? There are many public schools that are better than some private schools.

Public schools have minimum standards and are usually unionized. As such they have better benefits packages and better pay scales then many private schools.

Public schools are required to have certified teachers, Private schools are not and sometimes have to settle for less experienced educators or non-certified individuals.

Most parents want the private school to insulate their children from the problems of public schools, such as gangs, drugs and stupid kids. But my feeling is that this is insulating the children from the real world, the one they have to live and work in when they finish school.
