They can. The reason that some do not is because they are stubborn and ignorant and intolerant of diversity. Plain and simple. Bigotry and Rasism and Intolerance. Shameful for people with the technology and knowledge that we have now to behave like cavemen in this respect.

I was very surprised to hear that East and West Germans do not get along. They hate each other. Same race, same skin colour, same religion. I know people who dislike members of one visible minority but like another.
The notion that race or religion causes racism is simplistic. How do you account for the above observation?
I have come to this conclusion. Sociology 101. Each culture has their own set of standards as to what is normal or proper behavior and we each try to conform to these behaviors in order to be accepted by society. What is proper behavior in one culture is not for another. That is what people are reacting to. Differences in behavior.
