What a mixed bag of replies. I read a letter a couple of days ago from a muslim female schoolteacher from Saudi trying to recruit Muslim women from UK to teach English in schools in Saudi. She stated that veils must not be worn, and would not be tolerated in Saudi, as they are considered extreme, and they are nothing to do with the Koran. They are a man made thing, originally meant to keep the sand off their faces in the desert.

The Dutch have tried so very hard for 20 years to make Muslims welcome. The result has been a non Dutch speaking group within Holland totally divorced from the Dutch way of life. The throat slitting of the writer and film maker Van Gogh was a wake up call.

The Dutch have learnt a hard lesson - Muslims can only take, never give.

Hmmm... if you look closely at the Christian Bible (Romans or Corinthians, I think) there are a whole list of expectations of what a woman should act like and how she ought to dress in Christian communities. These are NOT very equitable by modern standards - obey your husband, be submissive, you are not allowed to talk or preach in church, a man always has the final answer, et c. (sounds just like another religion we're discussing here?)

It's there in black and white in the words of stPaul and it's never been edited out or repealed... that a woman should among many other things cover her entire head while in Church.

Now the good old Church of England and the RC interpret this as "ladies, please wear a hat on Sunday". But surely in its origins, the misanthrope and misogynist St Paul is stating that CHRISTIAN women should wear a burka and a full veil - ie, full head covering! not just a hat - that only covers the crown - but full and entire head covering. It's there, it's in your Bible, never been changed, go look.

The thought occurs that if Islam is in its origins a sort of syncretic blend of Judaism and Christianity, and Mohammed rewrote the Koran out of the Bible and the Torah, he had to get the idea for the full-veil and burka from somewhere... step forward Paul of Tarsus for planting the idea?

i do no longer care if somebody is wearing a veil or something over their hair - nuns and different non secular women human beings of christian and jewish faith have been doing it for hundreds of years in the united kingdom and different countries. The bloody queen wears a scarf a rather good variety of the time - in spite of the undeniable fact that that would desire to be an progression! i do no longer think of everyone would desire to be allowed to conceal their face nonetheless. Facial expressions are considerable in communique and seeing somebody's face is mandatory for identity. human beings can placed on what outfits they choose. i do no longer see the version between somebody wearing a protracted skirt and shirt to somebody wearing Islamic dress. back, nuns etc placed on all encompassing outfits besides - and that's a decision, there are a rather good variety of undercover nuns accessible!!!

How dare they ban the sacred veil, They should be allowed to wear this veil anywhere they want, When going onto planes, doing a driving test, walking into a bank, having a passport photo taken, cashing their benifits, like i said anywhere.

Who do we think we are???

I agree that it is a good idea. We in England should start putting our foot down too and stop trying to make everyone happy, and just take a look at what other countries do to keep their identity. We are British after all and we do seem to panda to everyone else instead of the British people.

Quaran :- Al Ahzab surah 33 verse 59
the wives and daughters should cast their outer garments over their persons.

Bible :- book of Moses (not to sure where)

these are sent by God and written .

the males do not have a say or should not have a say in weather a women should wear the veil. if you believe in God then you should follow the way that is written by him.
Niqaib ( full face and head cover) not a must its ones choice. and is banned in Holland,
Veil ( head cover only) must be worn when leaving your house and is not banned.

I think that it is very good that they have decided that they are going to make sure that the Muslims conform to integrating within the community, instead of trying to be separate. At least one country stands up for its rights, not like our lilly livered government. It is time that the liberal P.C. types realised that wearing the veil or burka is not stated in the Koran as a garment that should be worn, so that means it IS NOT A RELIGIOUS SYMBOL OF FAITH. It is a relic left over from what the nomadic Arabs wore as protective clothing in the desert.

personaly i think veils shouldn,t be worn as in our western cultre this is seen as disrespectful when someone covers there face in public. i think the religious argument has gone far enough .it is time for people to face reality and get on with there lives instead of always being on tip toes because of the muslim [question].
