It has to be a province that is at least half of the present biggest country in the world.

I'll guess Siberia in Russia.

Why don't you ask Borat? .......He's sure to know

There are no provinces of any country that come even close to approaching the area of the world's current largest country, Russia, which covers some 17,000,000 km2

The largest province in Canada is Quebec, at a paltry 1,542,056 km2, and the US doesn't have provinces.

The answer would have to be Russia's "Far East Federal District", in terms of land area... but it's still not the "World's Largest Country" after the secession. In terms of land area, the order would be: Russia (now reduced to 10382535 km2 by the loss of the district), Canada (9976140 km2), United States (9629071 km2), China (9596960 km2), Brazil (8511965 km2), and Australia (7686350 km2).

Far Eastern Federal District is one of the seven federal districts of Russia. Its population was 6,692,865 in the 2002 census, living on an area of 6,215,900 km2 (2,399,972.4 mi2), the largest Federal District in Russia. The current Presidential Envoy is Kamil Iskhakov.

Far Eastern Federal DistrictFar Eastern Federal District covers the territory of the Russian Far East (Russian part of the Far East).

Subdivisions of the Federal District, with republics (that enjoy a high degree of autonomy on most issues and correspond to some of Russia's ethnic minorities) marked with an asterisk:

1. Amur Oblast
2. Jewish Autonomous Oblast
3. Kamchatka Oblast
3a. Koryak Autonomous Okrug
4. Khabarovsk Krai
5. Magadan Oblast
5a. Chukotka Autonomous Okrug
6. Sakha Republic*
7. Sakhalin Oblast
8. Primorsky Krai (Maritime Province)

Not a 'province', but a state - if Western Australia seceded from the Commonwealth of Australia it would be, at 2,645,615 square kilometers, the world's tenth largest country, slightly smaller than Kazakhstan at 2,717,300 square kilometres.

The Sakha Republic is a federal subject of Russia (a republic). It has an area of 3,103,200 km² which would make it the largest province in any nation-state.
