There will be new passport regulations that take effect in 2008 (although that date has been pushed back several times now); however, you do not need one to go state-to-state. You only need it to get back into the country if you leave.

As of January 1st, 2008 all US citizens will need a passport to travel outside the country and will be needed for re-entry into the country as proof of citizenship and naturalisation.

It's not state to state. It'll be for going to mexico or canada which used to not be needed.

Go to the united states post service website I think it's usps.org or something like that

No, you need a passport to get back into the US. You even need one to go to Canada now.

me and my mom were gonna go to detroit to watch wrestlemania 23 but it is true, passports are needed

yes it is true. alot of countries are requiring passports starting in december. :(
