I would have to ask you a question in return that goes something like this: "Do you consider going to work at a civilian job that isn't necessarily serving your country but is doing good for the community and surrounding communities even in other states around my hometown and state?" The government takes their fair share of my check whenever I look at the paystub, hell I got my christmas bonus today and there were taxes taken out of it (of course he chose to do that rather than the government but still). I pay taxes on everything that has one and if you know what I am saying than everything or damn near close to it that we use everyday is taxed. I may not have chose to serve my country but I definitely think I have earned my right to complain or give praise to those elected officials that those taxes that I pay goes on to pay them as well as do just about everything else that happens in this country. I can't speak for everyone out there but I would sure believe that most everyone that can relate to what I do for a living would agree with what I have said in this little rant or rave (I never could figure which was which), hell you might even agree with it. Now as for those who take advantage of the system in anyway that they can, or evade paying what the government feels is due should definitely not get to complain about anything but then again if we knew who they were they would most likely be in jail or worse for those that really don't care anymore. This is all I have to say on this matter hopefully I have convinced someone who may not believe that I should have a say about things whether good or bad that might not have thought I did deserve it. I don't particularly mean you that have asked this question directly but then again you might have that opinion.

What do you consider "serving your country"? I serve my country every day by working hard, paying taxes, obeying the laws, and living my life in a moral manner. I served my country by taking care of my father after he was wounded in Vietnam. I serve my country by making sure my SIL who is in the army has everything she needs. I serve my country by making charitable donations, supporting veterans causes, adopting soldiers, voting, and making my voice heard. It isn't JUST those who put on a uniform that "serve" the country (NOT that I'm taking anything away from those who do wear the uniform and thank you!).

First of all, I have served in the military and can therefore speak firsthand about how corrupt and f*cked up the system is.

Secondly, even if I hadn't served, I'm still American. My friends who have not served in the military are no less patriotic, no less knowledgeable, no less American than I or any other veteran!

What pisses me off is people who form opinions based on media sound bytes and never take the time to educate themselves about what is really happening before going off half-******. Once you have taken the time to educate yourself in a subject, then your opinion on that subject matters.

There are many ways to serve your country, not just killing people. But whether you serve or not, you have a right to have an opinion, and are secure in the knowledge it counts. It's kinda why you are killing people, (except in Iraq, where nobody knows what the hell you are doing.)

Sorry, but I pay the salary of the people who "served this country," so as the person writing the checks, I have every right to complain.

The majority of people don't serve either in the military or in public office. The military serves at the behest of a civilian commander in chief who is elected by the voters. Their opinion absolutely does matter.

Fighting is not the only way to serve your country. You can help feed the poor, tutor kids, take care of old people, pick up trash, build beautiful buildings and parks, donate your time to help others, volunteer at a hospital, etc. etc.

If you vote your opinion counts, whether you serve in the military or not. If you don't vote, you have no say!

Of course, this is my opinion and does not represent the Constitution. Based on the Constitution, the opinion of everyone matters.

yes you can. I KNOW some stupid president said 'ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country'.
But in all honestly i am here to tell you that he lied to you. Because one can never be inclined to do anything for a country that has never done anything for them or has even seeked to take their help.
If you sit on your *** complaining its either because you cant do anything about the situation, i.e to young to be listened to or because your stupid country is to short sighted to see that your views and ideas are useful and make your life a living hell when you are trying to initiate change.
So yes sit on your *** and complain or not you can definately still call this country yours.

I can understand where you are coming from....I cannot stand to see those who would NEVER think to serve their country, enjoying all the benefits our military fought to give them....top on my list...burning my flag...war protesters...and the freedom of speech nuts who think their voice is the only speech that should be free...Thank God for those of you willing to fight for and defend a bunch of whining...ungratefull... spoiled brats, living off Daddy's dime and thinking he/she deserves it all...If they had been born in one of the countries we are now in conflict with...they would sing a different tune....or at least they would sing it in private....
