I bought a Mac Book for my boss at work. I do all the administrative and hardware/software work on it. It runs like a champ and is compatible with more items than some people may lead you to believe. I'd recommend installing at least 2 GB of RAM to make sure you don't lose any performance.

A word of caution: any software that you want to use HAS to be formatted for use in OS X--software that runs natively on OS 9 will not work (you can't even get the install disk to get recognized).

You pay more for a Mac than a PC, so if you're on a tight budget and need something right away, go with the Dell. Otherwise, take the Mac. PC's are cheaper for a reason--the quality is poorer and it is more susceptible to viruses, malware, etc. You pay more for an Apple machine but you get a much higher quality of product.

I just bought a lap top from Dell, and after wards it came out in the PC magazine as the no 1 la pt top on the market. It is an XPX M1210, It has alot of options which I didnot get, It comes with a built in camera, you can also watch TV on it if you choose that option. It cost me around 1300 without the options.
I would like to try a mac some day.

I don't know about the other brand but last month I bought a dell laptop an inspiron and it has been my worst nightmare, I ahve spent hours on the phone trying to fix it and at the end they didn't fix it well and i had to pay 130 dollars just in phone calls. The problems were in the internet acces, and the wireless card.
The most frustraring of all you must solve evrything on the phone because their technitiians are in India and sometimes trying to understand what they are saying is difficult.

I'd recommend the MacBook with no hesitation. Very capable, slim, well designed, and the best part: you don't have to deal with viruses, malware, and everything that comes with Windows XP at the moment. Plus I don't think I've ever had a better customer experience than I've had with Apple.

Also, you can run both OS X and Windows on one (if you like or need to)

Do not buy a Dell computer if you will need too much operator assistance. I have a friend who had trouble with her Dell computer and everytime she called for help it went to someone in New Deli who could hardly speak english. She got so frustrated dealing with people who couldn't help or understand her, she ended buying another computer

Don't get Dell whatever you do. They sell crappy computers and don't give a d--- if it breaks. You're on you're own if it does. (I speak from experience. Recenetly got a brand new Dell, it crashed after 2 months. They wouldnt do anything about it.)
I would recomend an HP. They're really really good.
