That is actually quite a good question. The truth is that every group of people coming to America was classified as dirt when they first came over. The existing immigrants all put down whoever was new.
When racism became a black and white issue, all of those people suddenly became white. That is to say that all Europeans became white and so did the Polish people and the Hispanics.
We started to differentiate during the 1990s when racism finally started to ebb. That is when the Hispanics made a stand and declared that they are not white. Black people became confused, since there are many shades of black or is it really brown skin? Many black people still feel better about themselves if they have lighter coloured skin.
The truth of the matter is that race is meaningless. We are all people no matter what skin colour we are. Italians are olive complected much like Spaniards and Central and South Americans.
We should all spend more time developing friendships and less time concerning ourselves with skin colour.
Take care,
Troy

Italians are Romans. What you need to know is that there are only three peoples in the earth. Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth. All African peoples are the sons of Ham. All Jewish and white people are the sons of Shem. All Asian, Chinese, Hawaiian, Eskimo, Native American, Japanese,Spanish,Cuban, portugese etc are the sons of Japheth. I have a question I dont know whose sons are the Indians of India. Are they Japeth sons?
