Only if they've levied a tax lien.If the IRS have not reported this to your credit bureaus by way of a lien, then no.If they have issued a lien that can even effect your bank account.Unpaid tax liens stay on your reports longer than even bankruptcy.Unpaid tax liens are up to 15 years where as most debts are only 7.If you do settle the lien make sure you get copies of all three of your bureau reports and dispute them,as the creditor doesn't always remove them.

It can if you have a tax lien, which is sort of like a collection that the IRS has put out for you. Tax liens generally placed on people who owe more than a few thousand dollars to the IRS. If you don't have a tax lien, your tax information won't show up on your credit report. If you only owe the government a couple hundred dollars, it won't matter when you go to get a mortgage.

If you owe the IRS, you must list that as a "debt" on your mortgage application. Some mortgage companies will let you buy a house anyways, and some will not. The IRS doesn't directly "prevent" you from buying a house, but it messes your credit score because you can't even remove that debt with bankruptcy.

It could if the IRS has you listed on your credit as owing. If it doesn't appear that way on your credit, you haven't paid them and you're able to buy a home.....the IRS can come back, get a judgment against you and place a lien on your home.

I dont know if it can prevent you from owning a home, but they can place a lien on the property for the amount you owe them.
