Red touch black, venom lack. Red touch yellow, kill a fellow. This is the rhyme I remember to tell the poisonous coral snake apart from the harmless milk snake. The milk snake uses mimicry, in which it copies the pattern on the poisonous snake to fool predators into thinking that it's poisonous, which it's not.

Red touches yellow, you're a dead fellow
Red touches black, you're all good, Jack.
White doesn't matter. It's either a King Snake, or a... Corn or Coral snake, I think. Corn and Coral are the ones that are poisonous. Good wishes.

there are 45 species of snakes in florida and of those only 6 are venomous...and they are
1) eastern coral snake...which would be determined by his colors...red on black is a friend of jack...red on yellow jacks a dead fellow
2) dusky pigmy rattlesnake which has a reputation for being very aggressive
3) timber rattlesnake
4) eastern diamondback rattlesnake which trust me there is no mistaking this one once youve seen enough of them
5) cottonmouth or water moccasin usually around water but not in every instance
6) southern copperhead which looks much like a cottonmouth but is easily distinguishable
if you dont know whether or not a snake is venomous you should always leave it alone....most will flee from you...you have probably come across a king snake which looks like a coral but take no chances....i was raised in and live in florida too so my daddy made sure we knew how to tell what is and isnt venomous and as bad as i hate to say it the only good snake is a dead snake

If it matches the color of the snake in this picture EXACTLY it is a poisonous CORAL SNAKE. If not exact it is a harmless snake that mimics the color of dangerous snakes for its own protection.
