I always leave silly answers. Depending on the question, some of these people take them serious and will tear the asker up. I come on Yahoo answers to be able to be a smartas*. I know the difference between serious and silly and I answer them accordingly.

I try to remain within the spirit or tenor of the questions asked. Ergo, silly begets silly, as a rule.

Usually yes, but sometimes they get serious answers too & sometimes serious questions get silly answers. I think it's partly miscommunication & partly lack of attention and focus.

No, I myself, and others have looked a question answered very seriously, then went back and realized they were joking. Then there are times when it's a serious question and I answer very stooopidly.
