Me and my partner have been trying for about 6 months. Previousely my periods were irregular (once every 2 months). Recently, they have been coming on time, but this month I am late by a few days. I did a pregnancy test but it was negative. I feel naseous most of the time and my stomach feels really bloated. What should I do?

I would wait a couple of days then take another test. Take the test first thing in the morning and don't drink any more to make yourself pee as this an effect the result.

Having periods every two months is not abnormal as others have suggested. The 28 day cycle is an average and most women don't experience this.

I would try learning NFP as you will discover exactly how your body works. It will also enable you to figure out when you are most fertile and increase your chances of conception.

LIFE UK runs a fertility awareness programme that is open to married couples. The Couple to Couple League offers an excellent home study course which I can highly recommend.

Also, try getting hold of a copy of Fertility, Cycles and Nutrition by Marilyn M Shannon. It contains lots of helpful hits about regukating your cycle and increasing your chances of concieving.

I too have irregular periods. Home pregnancy tests just plain don't work for me. I have a history of miscarriage and have been pregnant 8 times. I have NEVER had a positive home pregnancy test.

I personally wouldn't advise wasting any more money on the tests. Wait at least a week and ask your dr for a quantitative and qualitative pregnancy serum test. One measures the amt of the hormone and the other measures if there is any there. I forget which is which now:)

If the test comes back negative again and you still feel that you are pregnant, you can ask the dr to test again in a few weeks.

My wife failed six home pregnancy tests, a few urine tests at the doctors, and some blood tests their also while she was pregnant. Finally she passed a blood test revealing her pregnancy, but this was nearly two months time since conception. They told us that they were sure she was pregnant, even if she failed all of the tests, and that the next step would be a special ultrasound they insert temporarily into your uterus. Fortunately she passed the final blood test before this next step. I don't know why the tests did not work for our first child, but on our second child the first home test worked, as well as the doctors urine tests. I guess my advice is to see a doctor, and have them take blood tests. If you still think that you are pregnant with a negative result, then have them do the internal ultrasound (I don't know it's offical name).

"There are early prediction home pregnancy tests available that claim to detect pregnancy as early as 6 days past ovulation. But in spite of their claims, most are not sensitive enough to guarantee you an accurate result at this point. By 14 days after fertilization (about the time you would expect your period), most home pregnancy tests may be able to detect the hormone in your urine and give you a positive result. In fact, you're much more likely to get an accurate result if you wait until a week after your expected period before testing."

My doctor recommends testing 2 weeks after a missed period as the HCG would be much higher by this point if you are indeed pregnant.

Hope that helps.

It's possible you tested too early. Wait about 3 days and retest. Your body produces the hcg hormone when you are pregnant. The amount doubles about every 2-3 days. This is the hormone that an hpt tests for.

You can also have your doctor do a blood test, which is more accurate. Good luck!

you could possibly be pregnant. It is best to wait untill you are at least a week late to let the pregnancy hormone get established in your body.
As for the sick feeling morning sickness doesn't usually set in untill you are about 9-10 weeks along. A sign that a majority of women go by in the first few days or weeks is the fact that their boobs are tender and sore.
However with my first baby (who is 5 now) I didn't get any of the "normal" signs of pregnancy just felt sea sick all day from about week 11 till week 18.
With this one my boobs were very tender before I was due on and became more so the later I was due, my morning sickness set in at 9 weeks and by then my pregnancy had already been confirmed.
Everyone is different and all I can suggest is to play the waiting game.
Good Luck

Hey chick,
Dont worry for a start it took 7 weeks for my pregnancy test to show up positive, It was obvious I was pregnant from the signs but it wouldnt show up in a test for ages was well confusing!
So i suggest buying some pregnancy test from ebay as they are very cheap and then you can test every few days as Hcg the hormone the tests test for increases every few days and then keep testing for a few weeks. If you still have no success and no period go and see your doctor for a blood test as they are more accurate and can detect earlier.
Good luck xx

I'm in the same situation. The best thing to do is go to the doctor and take a blood test. That is the most accurate test you can take. If don't want to do that then wait a few days and take another test. Best of luck to you.

Go to your GP and ask for a test. Nor only does it cost nothing (compared to a home pregnancy test which costs about £8) They can also do an internal to check there is nothing else untoward happening in there if you aren't pregnant.
Another sign of pregnancy is tenderness in your breasts and a feeling of lethargy in the first three months.
If it hasn't happened this time, don't be too disheartened - the body works in wierd and mysterious ways and as soon as you relax about it all you will be more likely to concieve.
I hope things go your way soon. Ruth
