I have a SONY tv that is around 5 years old. it has a setting on the sound controls called Automatic. When i turn this on there is no change in the sound levels on the t.v when the ads come on. I have spoken to some friends who have different T.Vs to mine and they have found the same function on their T.Vs and it works for them also. You should try this it really works.

HI ITS BARRY SCOTT HERE,
Sorry Ally, couldn't resist, I drive my colleagues at work nuts with that when it comes on during a break at work.
Get Sky + no more adverts just press pause for 5 mins go to the toilet, make a drink have a sandwich whatever and then fast forward though the adverts, record 2 things at once no messy video timings, only downside it does tend to cut sound and de-sync.
I think that the advertising watchdog is aware of this and has already fined some companies, I know they fined ITV for ad breaks that are too long and be thankful you are not living in America where the Infomercial is king!
Also anyone else think that ASDA should be banned from UK Screens until they take that kid that shrills "ITS CHRISTMAS" at you in the middle of November?

You're not alone - the adverts ARE louder. I press Mute, too - & then I miss the start of part 2/3, cos I haven't heard the programme come back on!!!
Worse than the loudness is the awful format the advertisers use. Do they think it will actually make us buy their product???

This is done for a reason.
As the sound alters the brain reacts to the difference and becomes more alert.
They believe that this will make you take more notice of the advert.
If you are like me, I just turn the volume right down until the program starts again.

It's called 'Brickwalling' a tecnique developed by record producer Owen Morris, he produced Oasis' 1st album and wanted it to be the loudest thing on the dukebox when the track's played. he turned everything up, but keeping the levels right, kind of turning it up to 11 like spinal tap!

Yes, they are really loud and really annoying, even on the radio and especially those car dealership commercials. I just change the channel to one that is not showing commercials, or I watch stuff from my DVR and fast forward through the commercias-that is the best!

That's nothing new. They raise the volume to attract your attention when you might normally turn away. You have to hear it from the bathroom, right?
Yep, I'm a muter too.

This has been the case for decades. When challenged, the story is that they are not louder, but that the "sound is compressed", or somesuch garbage.
