Help them!

The charity is great - I have been involved with four organisations that have received grants from it.

What it recognises is that Government can never meet all the needs of society - when the Government puts money into one part of a children's charity, they can then expand their services by applying for a grant from an organisation such as Children In Need. (For example, one group I volunteered for had it's full-time staff paid for by a Government grant, but was able to get Children In Need funding to publicise its services).

As for people criticising the programme on TV - it's been around for over 20 years now (and the Children In Need charity is over 75 years old having just been a radio appeal originally).

As for the comment about wasting licence payers money - how does it do this? Everyone working on the programme (performers, technical staff, etc.) give their time for free, so it doesn't cost anything.

This is media -hype at its` worst. B.B.C 1 devoting the whole evening to sub-stand ad entertainment and in the name of charity allowing grown people to show off like primary school children. Every year after the show, it becomes apparent that a lot of the promised money does not materialise, or gets lost en-route. The cause is of course worthy, how could it not be, when it helps children? But far better, that people donate to these children on a regular basis, not so they can look `good` in-front of their mates. If people donate regularly and `gift aid` their donation the charity can also get an extra 28% of the donation from the tax-man.

I agree help children who are starving and don't get a good education - there arnt too many kids in this country that suffer like that the ones that do often come from mainstream schools with parents who neglect them by not feeding them a proper healthy meal every day and allow them to bunk off school, some children are carers and the government should be responsible for providing adequate care (lotto money should go towards medication, operations etc not art centres or sports facilities- scratch cards should be allocated to the less urgent charities, we could then chose which ones we wanted to support) as for the funds raised tonight - that should go to the elderly - the ones that cant afford mobility scooters, special bathing equipment and urgently needed extra care - we really are letting our parents and grandparents down. (I work as a carer for mainly the elderly who are finding it hard to afford the extra care they may need and I also work with children who have learning difficulties, who by the way are well cared for in society and are offered the most fantastic education, which they truly deserve .

I think it is very important. I have just given £10 to children in need today. I know you think that was stupid of me. But I think if everyone pitches in their will no longer be any more children in need. And will all now be living healthy happy lives.

A waste of time, there are specific charities that should be supported who have been around doing the same work for years. The B.B.C. is using our licence fee towards another reality type show instead of towards decent programmes. Another showcase for tired and ailing stars,as well as new ones trying to get noticed and hoping that it will further their careers. It is very comendable though that the ordinary citizens are willing to give up their time for such worthy causes and should be congratulated. Still I hope they raise a record amount of money.

It's good that they help so much children and well done to them all for giving their time and effort and all those who give their money I always give too, but one year I watched they gave money for a play park which I thought could have been spent more wisely and it put me off a bit.It is good for children in schools to learn about giving those who are not so well off as they are.

It's not just for the starving kids but for those who cannot afford to pay great amounts of money for those special needs. IE, electric wheel chair etc.
