A bladder control problem after giving birth is usually an indication of a poorly toned pelvic floor muscle. This muscle acts like a hammock holding up your pelvic organs. When it is not toned it allows the pelvic organs to sag and can cause incontinence. The "fix" is actually quite simple. Kegels (named after the Dr. who discovered the exercise) done a few times each day will quickly tone the muscle and alleviate the problem.

To do a Kegel you must first identify and isolate the pelvic floor muscles. The easiest way to do this is to try stopping the flow of urine when you use the restroom. Once you have identified the kegel muscle simply tighten and release it about 200 times each day. If you do them all at once this will take roughly 3 minutes. You can also do a number of Kegel variations - Elevators where you tighten the muscle in increments like going up in an elevator and release in increments like going down or you can tighten and hold the muscle for 5 seconds before releasing. The great thing is that Kegels can be done almost anywhere, anytime. No one will know you are doing them. But they are easy to forget so pick something that will remind you. For example, Kegel at each red light you come to or when you get put on hold or while your waiting at the drive-thru. It won't matter what just do them Every Day.

As a side benefit - a well toned kegel muscle makes for better sex.

I've had bladder control problems ever since the birth of my 1st child, who weighed 10lbs 3 oz. Over the years and after 2 more children my bladder problems got worse. Going to see a urologist might help, they may suggest Kegel exercises to strenghten the bladder muscles.

If Kegel exercises are not enough there are some well known medications out there for over active bladder. In lieu of the medications there are several bladder control products out there on the market. The use of any one or all of these options can make your bladder control problems at the very least bearable. Good luck

It's normal, my doctor said that you have to give it like 6 months to a year and if that doesn't help it then see a urologist. I never made it the urologist because I keep popping out kiddos (lol) but after this one I will be seeing one. But don't wrory you're totally not along and a lot of times it does go away on it's own. Good luck!

I guess the best advice I can give, is firstly get checked out by your Dr to ensure you have not got a water infection.

Secondly practice your pelvic floor exercises.

The 3rd most practical one is to wear sanitary towels and make sure you change them regular.

Sorry to say this but it doesn't get any better. But there is a lot of help out there if you talk to your Dr.

yes and it will get worse.

Go to a doctor.

I waited years to have the surgery
-- Now adays they can do it with minimal invasion -- It's a one day operation - You can go home right away.

My life in general is so much better since I went to the doc and had the surgery done

See the same doc who delivered your baby and they will take care of you.
