Wow - I didnt know this.
If its true then it would be an isolated incident and I think punishing the majority from having fun because of an idiotoc minority is not fair.
As long as this youth is convicted and given an appropriate punishment such that justice is done then fine, plus it will serve as an example to others of what will happen if you choose to harm others with fireworks or otherwise.

On the continent only public displays are allowed and the general public cannot buy them in shops, full stop. There are so many accidents in this country and from being just Bonfire night, it is weeks before and after. Also they have become so much powerful and loud than they used to be. People keep them and use them for parties, and for personal celebrations, so you never know when some will go off, frightening pets and annoying neighbours in the early hours. That may be some people's idea of fun (at the expense of others' peace of mind of course) but it certainly is no tradition. In these times of terrorism and crime, how do we know it is not something threatening? Their general sale should be forbidden.

What a horrible thing to happen -- if it did! Perhaps it would take a high profile case like this to make the authorities see sense. They are nannying us in so many ways. As it is we can't have bonfires in our gardens, even on Bonfire Night, so why not take the next logical step and ban the sale of fireworks in ordinary shops and the ignition of fireworks by everyone who isn't a registered pyrotechnician? It would make sense!

Trevor MacDonald lost his eye to a firework?!
Are you serious?!
I never knew..
I always thought they should be banned anyway,
Regardless of whether it hit Trevor or not
(no offence to the guy,I'm just saying I was always against fireworks)

REALLY????!!!!
Either way, they shouldn't be banned, but only sold to people who are going to put on a proffesional display.
And it's not just 'one eye vs...' It's plenty of eyes and lives too.
