actually it's about one of my beer farts while boozing it up with mr. collins.

he was not happy i took his wallet that night, he fainted from the aroma... thank god we were outside... the stench soon dissipated and i made off like a bandit.

he later invited me to one of his concerts... i wore a mask but he picked me out of the audience and leaped at me.. but the fans caught mr. collins and that very day he invented the mosh.

:D

Phil Collins Drowning Story

2016-11-04 12:31:53 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

Thats an old myth, according to Collins ..................
Years later, Collins commented on the legends about the song in a BBC World Service interview:

I don't know what this song is about. When I was writing this I was going through a divorce. And the only thing I can say about it is that it's obviously in anger. It's the angry side, or the bitter side of a separation. So what makes it even more comical is when I hear these stories which started many years ago, particularly in America, of someone come up to me and say, 'Did you really see someone drowning?' I said, 'No, wrong'. And then every time I go back to America the story gets Chinese whispers, it gets more and more elaborate. It's so frustrating, 'cos this is one song out of all the songs probably that I've ever written that I really don't know what it's about, you know.

For sure it's a myth. You can read several interviews with Phil talking about it, that in fact the song is about "nothing special", and the anger we hear comes from the fact he was getting a divorce (thus, thinking about it) when he wrote this particular music.

Funny there are several versions to this: First time I heard it, it wasn't a kid, but his best friend that drowned. Another version I heard was that there wasn't a third person who didn't help, only Phil and his friend (the guy drowned because Phil didn't know how to swim, and had to live with the fact that he let his best friend die).

Yeah it's just a myth....

As Phil Collins has explained numerous times over the years, "In the Air Tonight" (as well as most of the Face Value album) deals with his bitterness and frustration over the end of his marriage to his first wife, and the lyrics do not reference any specific real-life event.

We took off and settled down for the 4 hour holiday. I bear in mind that become between the main astonishing sunsets i've got ever witnessed! Being above a layer of clouds, it become as though we've been on a various planet. some human beings even began crying. At one factor, the forged blanket of orange clouds cleared away revealing those significant mountains packed with colorings and shadows, it become astonishing. yet, it did no longer final for long! as quickly as the solar become long gone, our airplane right now entered a thunderstorm and become being thrown around violently. we could see lightning, some so close we could experience and hear it! The rain outdoors our window become flying by using so rapid it gave the effect of we've been in a tunnel of white stripes (incredible!). suitable earlier we landed we've been counseled that there were a 7.a million earthquake in Cali suitable whilst we took off. Our lodge become suitable interior the middle of the earthquake, it may've been insane! i become unhappy as a results of fact I had never been in an earthquake, and that i had to be in one some day, yet I only ignored a significant one. This airplane journey will stay in my memory as a results of sensation after all and sundry become getting out of the airplane. It felt like we had only long undergone an epic poem. each and every of the failings we observed, and all the sentiments that have been felt have been only eye-catching.
