I must say that your friend still has a childish mind. Yes, she should have made plans for her birthday and included all of you in on it if she wanted you to be a part of it. Also, understanding that it was her birthday and that you all called her to let her know that you were thinking of her on this day.....just because you all did not ask her if you all could hang out with her, is no reason for anyone to be upset. Your friend needs to grow up! With an attitude like that, she won't keep friends for long.

No and yes. Some people consider birthdays EXTREMELY important because it's the only day of the year that YOU get to celebrate you. I am 21 and still believe it's a big deal. Most ppl think as you do, it doesn't matter once you stop being a kid. But if you care about someone, whatever is important to them should be important to you. Even if you think it's lame, if she's your friends just make her happy. You aren't wrong for not making plans, but I think you should apologize for hurting her feelings because you didn't know it was important to her. Don't apologize for not doing anything for her. That's not the issue, the issuse is she wanted to feel special for one day, and her friends didn't do that. Next year, if you two are still friends YOU make plans because you know that's how she operates.

Children are often more selfish and self absorbed than adults, though not in some cases. You as her friend should have made a little extra effort for her special day. How would you feel in the same situation?

Why shouldn't you celebrate your birthday every year of your life? What's wrong with that?
It's her birthday, would it have killed her friends to be nice to her and take her out somewhere fun? Why should she have to organize her own birthday party? I think ya'll are rotten friends and I'm glad she has realized this and moved on.
